    Our who, what and why….

With a background in business, I have lived and worked in Cornwall most of my life, other than a brief couple of years living in Germany and Warwickshire.

I attended Trinity Street Infants (which shows my age), St Mewan and Poltair Schools in St. Austell.

Kelly’s Arcade and The Golden Penny were our go to, although Frogger was about my limit and I’m still not great with technology. We were there during the fantastic Crinnis years when there was a pool, a train and Wimpy then Bentleys, Quasars, Radio 1 Roadshows and the Coliseum.

After leaving school I worked the summer in Mevagissey, learning how to work hard for what I wanted, before going off travelling and realising Cornwall’s pull to home.

My business career started with ECC at Charlestown Foundry, then Drinnick No 8 before heading to Marketing then Group at John Keay House until the early 1990s when our own local area started to decline.

After having my family, I changed track, working in schools and running my own business in mid Cornwall. Cornwall’s first accessible coarse fishery, helped by Objective One funding, was created and became a huge local success.

Following divorce, a further change was required so I returned to college, completing the Certificate in Person Centred Counselling at Cornwall College.
Circumstances at the time allowed me to work part time, close to home whilst still soaking up all the training my brain would allow, eventually working full time for a great business supporting people to remain as independent as possible until the time came to spend more time with my own family.

I am really proud to have completed the L5 Leader in Adult Care qualification to distinction standard, the assessor stating, “…..this was an exceptional professional discussion in which you met all 24 distinction criteria showcasing your commitment, compassion, and caring nature for your working practice”.

Proudly Cornish, seeing the daily struggles of local people juggling their lives to enable loved ones to stay at home, watching Treliske struggle with discharging patients unable to return home through lack of support, watching bus routes disappear from an already isolated communities, seeing families having to choose between caring for a loved one or remaining in work was just heart breaking.

Having never been afraid of a challenge, when it became apparent that there was such a need, I didn’t hesitate. With experience working with young people with behavioural issues, the homeless, those with addictions and individuals needing some support to live independently as well as having my own ageing family members, I utilise my skills, my contacts and my knowledge to form Cornwall Housekeeping & Support Solutions Ltd.

A stickler for detail, being organised, relishing learning and remaining passionate about what I do allows me to run my own business again, whilst still saving quality time for my own family, time that I am fiercely protective of.

Loving what CH-SS Ltd has already done for families and their loved ones, makes me just want to shout about it constantly!

    Claire x

    Emily….

I’ve lived and worked in Cornwall for most of my life and if there’s one thing this county gives you (aside from horizontal rain and a deep respect for the weather forecast), it’s a strong sense of community and a solid work ethic.

I started young with holiday cleaning jobs while still at school, which taught me two important life skills: responsibility… and how to remove sand from anywhere. Those early jobs helped me build lasting ties in my local area and a healthy appreciation for hard work.

After studying hairdressing at college, my career took what I like to call the “scenic Cornish route.” From hairdressing to bathroom and kitchen sales, to retail, I learned to adapt quickly, all while raising my daughter. Along the way I gained resilience, flexibility, and the ability to talk to just about anyone (a skill that started with hair clients and never really left!).

As my daughter grew older, so did my desire to support people in a more meaningful way. That led me to complete my Level 4 in Counselling, swapping sales targets for something far more rewarding: empathy, understanding and practical support.

I met Claire while we were both working with adults with complex needs, including homelessness and addiction. We worked side by side for many years, united by a shared work ethic and a belief in doing things properly, with compassion, respect, and maybe the occasional well-timed cup of coffee.

So, when Claire needed someone to join her at CH-SS Ltd, it wasn’t a difficult decision, it felt like a natural next chapter.

I’m passionate about caring for and supporting others, always learning, and saying yes to new challenges (even the slightly scary ones).

My mission is simple: to support families with kindness, dignity and practical help, fuelled by good coffee, grounded in community, and possibly still carrying sand in my shoes.

    Nominations received from our clients….

‘’Claire goes above and beyond when working with her clients. She is thoughtful, compassionate and her empathy shines through. Claire company allows people he have the opportunity to gain more in the community and give family’s rest when required.’’

‘’My mum is 87 years old with dementia, she has lived with me for 3 years. It has been really hard doing this without any Respite until I found Claire, she goes above and beyond To help me and help me to be able to keep mum out of a care home for as long as I can Claire puts a smile on my mums face every time and that is priceless, to give Claire recognition for her fantastic work this would be amazing. Claire is amazing without her help my mum would be in a care home.’’

Although not shortlisted for the final this year we are so proud to have received the nominations and would like to thank those who took the time to write such lovely words about what we do.
